How Do I Sign? Can I Print and Sign or Electronically Sign?
Signing your documents correctly is essential before submitting them to the VA. You can sign electronically or on paper - both are accepted when done properly.
Note: The Signature option is fully available to you from your VetClaims portal.

Option 1: Electronic Signature
This option is recommended when using a computer. You may electronically sign your documents using:
Adobe Acrobat (PDF)
- Free or paid versions allow you to insert a legally valid digital signature.
Preview App (Mac Users)
- Includes a built-in signature tool and is easy to use.
Other PDF Signature Tools
- Many online or downloadable tools offer free trials.
- Ensure you save the file after signing so your signature remains embedded.
Important: We do not recommend electronically signing on your mobile phone. Mobile signing often causes:
- Formatting issues (problems when you're entering information).
- Signature misplacement.
- Failure when uploading your signature.
Use a computer if signing electronically.
Option 2: Print, Sign, and Re-Upload
If you need or prefer to sign physically:
- Download and print your documents.
- Sign using a pen and ink. Ensure your signature is clear.
- Make sure to scan or take a high-quality photo of each page. Both the document and your signature need to be clearly visible.
- Navigate to the VA's Quick Submit Portal and upload the scans or pictures of the signed pages.
This method is fully acceptable and may be easier for some veterans.
Before Uploading Your Signed Documents
Double-check that:
- Signatures appear in all required locations.
- Your Social Security Number has been added where requested.
- Pages are in the correct order.
- Scans are clear and readable.
- File names and formats are correct.
- Your document is saved as a PDF document prior to upload.
Improper signatures are a leading cause of VA submission delays, so take your time to ensure accuracy.
