What Happens After My Claim Documents Are Ready?

Once your documents are complete, you’re entering one of the most important phases of the VA claims process. This guide outlines every step to help you confidently move forward from document review to preparing for your C&P exams.

Step 1: Watch Your Portal Videos

Inside your VetClaims Portal, you’ll find instructional videos created specifically to explain:

  • What happens after your documents are completed.
  • How to properly review your claim packet.
  • How to sign and submit your forms.
  • What to expect during the next stages of your claim.

Each video includes downloadable versions of your completed forms so you can follow along in real time. This is important because most questions veterans have after receiving their documents are answered in these videos. Watching them will save you time and help prevent mistakes.

Step 2: Review Your Documents Carefully

Before signing:

  • Confirm all names, dates, and medical conditions are correct.
  • Make sure every form is complete.
  • Read through your statements and narratives to confirm accuracy.
  • Ensure all pages are present and properly formatted.

If you identify anything that needs correction, please submit a Paperwork Correction ticket from your VetClaims.ai portal.

You can request revisions directly from your portal. Please include:

  • A clear description of the issue.
  • The specific form and page number.
  • Any corrected information.

Step 3: Sign and Add Your SSN

After reviewing:

  1. Sign all required fields.
  2. Add your Social Security Number where indicated.
  3. Ensure your signature matches the name on your claim documents.

This is required before sending anything to the VA.

Step 4: Submit Your Documents to the VA

You may submit your documents using one of the following methods:

  1. VA Quick Submit Portal (Fastest): Recommended for speed and tracking. You’ll upload your documents through VA.gov using your VA login credentials.
  2. Mail Your Documents: Send the complete packet to the VA’s Evidence Intake Center. Use certified mail if you want delivery confirmation.
  3. Drop Off at a Local VA Facility: Most VA offices provide a drop-off option. Request a date-stamped receipt if available.

Step 5: Prepare for Your C&P Exams

After submission, the VA may schedule you for one or more Compensation & Pension (C&P) Exams. When this happens:

  1. Log in to your VetClaims Portal.
  2. Go to the Meetings tab.
  3. Book a C&P Preparation Call with a VetClaims representative.

This prep call helps you understand what to expect, what to bring, and how to communicate effectively with the examiner.
